Hi Ariane, and welcome! It's just a clever way of saying collaborating to write something. It's not a strict definition as "co-authoring" a piece of writing could mean a lot of different things, but what we'd like to underscore is that most writers do have some company along the way. Could mean anything from a developmental or copy editor to a thought partner to the folks you write with day in and day out. So, highly subjective! Does that help?
Hi Sara, thanks so much for responding... and... well, nothing like a definition that's left up to the reader. At least it's not locked in, and that's helpful. I'd love to understand more about where and what, in Foster, I can play with. Is there a newsletter for us newbies, to layout all the Foster segments: what, where, & how? At some point, before I joined, I fell into a section of the Foster Universe that seemed far ranging and a bit of the Wild West. But now, all I get is an email relative to writing circles and I'd really like to understand more.
Hi Ariane, hehe, it has been a bit of a wild west around here, no doubt! We have just made our new website live, where you can read more about the practice. Check it out at https://www.foster.co/ and let me know what questions you have! We'll be sharing more about what we're doing in the coming weeks that I hope will be clarifying as well.
Website is clean and so easy to access. Q#1: I try to stay away from Chrome as much as possible, but willing to add Foster's Chrome extension. Except, when I did that, my Google docs home page opened up.
a) It says "Tap a button inside Google Docs & watch..." What button? Where?
b) How do I wall off the Foster Google docs from the rest of my Gdocs?
c) Do I simply open a new doc, paste in my material, name it, and then.... what? How do I share it, and it alone, with Foster folks?
Perfect... fostering away! Thanks for your time, Sara.
P.S. The link to the Foster/Google doc page was confusing because the image it opened on was in the middle of the slides you created to answer these very questions. And I couldn't see any way to just access my Google docs from that page. Someone might want to set up that page so the slide someone sees immediately is Slide #1 in the sequence.
I'm a newborn Fosterite, so this question arises out of innocent ignorance: here in Foster, what does it mean to "co-author?"

Thanks for the kind words about the website! Answers to your questions here:
It says "Tap a button inside Google Docs & watch..." What button? Where?
--> There's a F logo at the top of your Google Docs that you can press to send a document to Foster
How do I wall off the Foster Google docs from the rest of my Gdocs?
--> Foster will only share Google Docs that you explicitly share with Foster's editors
Do I simply open a new doc, paste in my material, name it, and then.... what? How do I share it, and it alone, with Foster folks?
--> Yep, start a new doc and then press the F logo on the top of your doc to share it with Foster
Perfect... fostering away! Thanks for your time, Sara.
