Danver Chandler
is one of our favorite Foster writers. The author of
Icing on the Cake
, a newsletter she describes as a “collision of adventure, psycho-spirituality, and tech for readers who want to invite the unconventional into their lives,” her work never fails to surprise and inspire. As a writer, Danver has found a way to tap into some of the deepest parts of herself and use it to fuel her creative output.

Which led us to wonder, how do you do it, Danver?? Inspired by a recent foray into the work of comedian Maria Bamford, she gamefully embarked on the writing experiment below, which is meant to answer the question, “What if we could bottle up your writing process and deliver it to other writers as a pill? How might other writers experience it?”

It’s fun, it’s weird, it’s interesting, and above all, it makes us want a dose stat. Enjoy. — SC

Introducing Danver™

Description:

Expanded perception, intensity, and commitment make Danver an excellent choice for writers who have big imaginations and dreams. Danver, sometimes referred to as ‘The Mack Truck Delivery,’ is an excellent choice for channeling multiple ideas from the mental plane into reality. Writers feel they are exploring the deepest parts of their own internal muse. Writers also report feeling lots of euphoria, multi-perceptions, and increased internal soma-Socratic-communication with themselves.

Effects Indicator:

Internal Humor              ******** 8

Mental Energy               ********** 10

Perspective                    ********* 9

Curiosity                        ********** 10

Somatic Experiencing   ********* 7

Muse Activation           ********** 10

Note:

Keep Danver cool and refreshed in summer, or warm and cozy in winter. Does especially well with teas, tiny pastry bakes, and periodic walks near bodies of water. Also does well in gardens with lush trees any season of the year.

Dosage: Try only once per day for a strong writing experience.

More about Danver:

Danver, also known as a wordsmith or author, is a linguistic filtration product from Mother Earth. Danver absorbs the world around and filters its messages in direct conjunction with the experiential nature of life directly on the writer's hands, heart, and mind giving a more intense writing experience that supports the completion of essays, poems, or books.

This attuned writing process is very grounded, and provides a rich multi-perspective experience without bias. Writers feel they have landed so deeply inside of their bodies they may not move anything but their phalanges for hours. With this precision of energy conservation they experience the full Mack Truck Delivery.

Usage:

Works well with pen and paper, or any QWERTY keyboard of the modern era. Limit distractions. Silence all notifications. Disconnect cell phone notifications from laptop.

For best results, add writer’s tension: The romance between the writer and the page (the naked muse) is enhanced by a third object that gently teases you away from the page into the post-conception world of facts, stories, research. Borrow the right amount of this tension and the writer will be more apt to generate an enhanced delivery. This is the writer’s umami.

How: Find a fact, a teaspoon of a related story, or a sprinkle of connections with other domains or genres that are new to you, and add just enough to give your subconscious something to marinate on as you craft.

Rather than seeking out these bits of information through common search engines, use alternatives such as Duck Duck Go, which will yield varied results and beneficial micro-frustrations. Or consider using Ecosia to heighten connection with the Earth, which enhances euphoria.

Writers report that even the pursuit of writer’s tension can give direct access points into the depths of the muse. Writers also report they are less likely to ignore or forget the writing process entirely when using writer’s tension.

Ergonomic Function:

It is recommended to just sit on a couch or lie down in a comfortable position with your favorite blanket and pillows. Writers report that too much functional precision can impede access to the full effect. However, do balance bodily positioning for long-term well being.

Side-Effects:

  • May experience confrontations with yourself, allowing hidden ideas to surface. Be at peace with the philosophical conundrum each idea presents.

  • Writer’s anxiety may surface in the heart space or belly. In these cases, keep writing and breathe through each word.

  • May feel spontaneous joy or elation when disjointed ideas finally connect.

  • Writer’s knot may surface. In this case consider writing from the end backwards to unravel.

  • Mental energy may keep you up late at night, driven to finish the last sentence, paragraph, or chapter.

  • Goal-oriented writing process may or may not be fulfilled. Be at peace with any outcome.

  • Mental effects will bleed into the next day so you will experience an after-surge of energy too.

  • Sentiment towards delaying your writing practice may arise. Ignore these subtle delusions of mind, and write.

Contra Indications:

Do not consume with party or dance music. Do not place in extreme heat or cold. Do not consume after large meals.

Please note:

Treat Danver with respect if early onset is slower than anticipated. In these rare cases a walk outside in nature will more than likely initiate the process.

An Invitation to Join the Adventure

Hello friends,

Spirit of Foster
here. Danver joined Foster last October, but we really got to know her during Season 2 earlier this year.

I’ll be frank, we are looking for more kindred spirits. More of the Danvers of the world. I’m talking about curious, open-hearted, fearless humans who are ready to dig deeper into themselves and embark upon a guided, monthlong date with their creativity. And produce their truest, most high impact writing to date.

Is that you? Join us for Season 4.
