Hey Writers!
“Life got in the way,” is a phrase we sometimes hear from Foster members who have fallen out of practice with their writing. During this time of year, when you’re juggling holidays, travel, visiting friends and family, kids out of school, etc., it’s easy for creative practices to take a backseat.
What if we didn’t think of our writing as separate from the rest of our lives?
Sure, there are often more important things that need attending to. But the phrase “life got in the way” implies that your writing isn’t part of your life. For me, writing—even if it’s writing like journaling that I never share with anyone else—is essential to my life.
This is part of why so many people routinely show up to our weekly writing circles. Because no matter what else is going on in their lives, they have time set aside for their writing.
We still have some public writing circles available to attend before the new year so you can stay in practice too.

Agreed! If life is getting in my way it’s usually because I’m not paying attention, which is what writing helps me to do.
