Hey Writers!
Part of what I love about Foster is our Contributor Collective. The amazing people within it consistently blow our minds with the things they offer our community.
A couple of months ago, we asked them if they would like to host their own Public Writing Circles. And the outpouring of incredible ideas was inspiring.
Here are some examples of upcoming Public Writing Circles that I’m personally excited about:
Nicholas Goodey helped create a group that emerged from one of our cohorts where the members write on a weekly prompt. That often requires hitting publish on something that might feel less than perfect.
His ‘Published is Better Than Perfect’ Writing Circle on Monday, June 17th at 6 am ET, is built around a one-word prompt, which the group will write about in any way they wish, with the goal being to hit ‘publish’ at the end of the Circle—regardless of the medium.
Imagine you want to swim or row across a river to reach a dock on the other side. The best strategy is to find a point upstream where you can get in and swim diagonally across, going with the current and letting it carry you forward and over to your goal with ease.
What does crossing rivers have to do with writing? Sometimes, writing feels like fighting an invisible current all day and getting no closer to your goal. Maybe you need to get out and start from a different place on the riverbank! Sometimes, the whole river is dammed, and nothing is flowing at all. Sometimes, you’ve tortured a metaphor to the point where it has become completely ridiculous.
In Dylan Tweney’s ‘Freewriting with the Flow’ Writing Circle on Monday, June 17th at 7 pm ET, you’ll practice some freewriting techniques to get in flow with the current instead of against it.
Jude Klinger is a long-time Foster Contributor and one of our resident fiction writers. On brand, her ‘Fast, Furious, Fun’ Writing Circle on Tuesday, June 18th at 11 am ET is geared towards fiction writers, poets, and any writer who wants to have fun exploring language and diverse genres.
She will give you timed prompts—both written and visual—to inspire your creativity. Come with an open mind, a playful spirit, and good energy.
There are many more Public Writing Circles coming up. You can check out the full schedule here. I hope to see you at one soon!
