Hey Writers!
I was sitting on my couch. My daughter was on the floor excitedly wiggling around watching a show on our iPad. My wife and stepdaughter sat together on our big chair across the room, giggling about something.
What was I doing? I was catching up on email newsletters on my phone.
That’s when I came across this viral Substack Note from
:It stopped me in my tracks.
Then I thought about the reading I was just doing. If I was being honest, most of it was skimming, without fully letting the author’s words wash over and affect me. I also deleted a few without reading them—even ones from writers I consider friends. The funny thing is that I consider Alex a friend and we likely wouldn’t have ever connected without us writing our respective newsletters.
Basically, I wasn’t reading at all. I was getting through a to-do list.
I put my phone down. I knelt on the ground and kissed my daughter on the cheek. And then I cracked open my book.
I get that this newsletter adds to the glut of content you receive each week. I hope it provides you with some inspiration to write more and potentially join us. Staying in regular practice with your writing and creativity isn’t easy. Yet it’s easier when you do it along with others.

To be fair we're probably in a bit of a bubble ourselves. Most readers are not also writers with writer friends and likely not oversubscribed.
